An Action of Salvation

by MARYANNE SKORA

Love is a time machine
that entangles around your mind
bringing the past into full view;
when golden sunflowers sang
and we would dance swiftly upon
their silk and able shoulders.

I remember the winter nights
that never extinguished our passion
though cold winds raged on;
darkness didn’t dare enter
for our two souls combined
ignited into blissful ecstasy.

Love is a time machine
that chokes your will to live
showing you the formidable future;
where dead roses dwindle
and death is heard everywhere
calling out your names.

I see happiness drifting
into piles of empty promises
that never acquired value;
dissatisfaction develops
and clogs our mute throats
warning us of the inevitable.

Love is a time machine
that reveals provocative secrets
for the better or for the worse;
don’t let this gift be wasted
by deceiving and coveting
forgive and live in present times.

Sparks Fly

Your winged hellos glide
across smooth starless sky –
invitations strike hot air
spilling words of firelight
– everywhere.

Dare To Dream

by MARYANNE SKORA

Are you seriously going to make another cup of coffee?
Put the mug down before your mind is numbed in addicting energy.
Edible boosters are not everlasting,
ponder on that before you find the nearest exit door from reality.

Have you ever walked out of your door in the early morning?
Witness a sunrise; skip that extra sleepy hour and it won’t be regretted.
If trying something new
means experiencing enlivened happiness, then go, break out in a run.

Why are you concealing your independent voice at all the wrong times?
Speak proudly for justice — you will not always be given such an opportunity.
Reveal your inner confidence,
someone across the world might just hear your beliefs and be inspired.

Note from the author:
This quote inspired me to write a more independent poem, in a hope to reach out and tell others: Don’t be afraid to let your voice be heard, try new activities and you might be offered fresh opportunities. Life was given to go out and do your best, give back to the world, let what talents and virtues God gave you shine. Life is too short to simply just live. Make it a goal to learn, and to dare to fulfill your dream.

“No, life cannot be understood flat on a page. It has to be lived; a person has to get out of his head, has to fall in love, has to memorize poems, has to jump off bridges into rivers, has to stand in an empty desert and whisper sonnets under his breath… We get one story, you and I, and one story alone. God has established the elements, the setting and the climax and resolution. It would be a crime not to venture out, wouldn’t it?” — Donald Miller
