The Dessicated Scholar

by DIB DE LEON

I met a guy in a coffee shop,
Scholarly looking to be precise.
He laughed at my poems,
Well, I don’t think that’s nice.

He told me, “The accents are wrong.”,
To do this and to do that.
“Lessen the beats, and your poems sounds, well… flat.”

He handed me a piece of paper and told me, “Read this.”
He laughed at my efforts, I pity his,
They read like words of a heartless lover armed with an empty kiss.

Simpleminded

by DIB DE LEON

I don’t really mind –
Don’t really know much about politics.
I don’t really mind –
They don’t really know much about me too.

I don’t really mind –
Don’t really know much about chemistry.
I don’t really mind –
Don’t use much chemicals too.

I don’t really mind –
Don’t really know much about sciences.
I don’t really mind –
Don’t know what seance is too.

I don’t really mind –
Don’t really know much about righteousness.
I don’t really mind-
Don’t really know much, I confess.

I don’t really mind –
Don’t really know much about sorcery.
I don’t really mind –
The technicalities of technology.

I don’t really mind –
Don’t really know much to write poetry.
I don’t really mind –
If you criticize my musicality.

You might say I’m ignorant,
‘Cause I’m not that educated,
But I’m not unprepared,
‘Cause I know that I’m contented.
The reds and blues go by,
They can’t stop me from celebrating,
I know that life’s like that,
You can’t stop it by your complaining.
Really, I don’t mind.

Pisces on Love

by DIB DE LEON

It’s springtime when I gaze upon your grace,
Just one look at your face,
Beats the gloom that lives at my place.
It feels like summer when you smile,
Makes me stop and think for a while,
What a distinctive style,
Then happiness flows like Nile.
I’ve felt your coldness and started to shiver,
Still, you’re the sun that keeps away my winter.
I don’t quite understand the thing that hinders,
Help me, I feel like smoke under deep waters.
Autumn? I like to call it fall,
I’ve got no fancy tricks at all,
Guess I’m just having a ball,
Staring at you, that’s all.

Encomium

by DIB DE LEON

Poetry,
Few are those enthralled by you completely,
And like them,
I am a witness of your inner beauty,
From time to time with your mystical rhyme –
It keeps me sedate and free from the pain,
Of emotional thingies that make me insane.
How can I repay someone as good as you?
I guess I’ll never know and for that I love you so,
Indeed you are a mystery,
Forever be with me,
Thanks a lot, poetry.
